Designed in the Stick Style, this house remains an excellent example of the small Victorian home. Note the ornate porches and the ornamental shingles in the gables. When Sears Street was only a muddy lane it was known as Goose Alley, because the villager's geese gathered there beside Cascadilla creek. Today its a quiet one block street in the heart of downtown Ithaca. 106 Sears St. is a historic Queen Anne, nicely renovated and situated within the main Historic District downtown. It is actually a brick building covered with clapboard siding, which at the time was an expensive method of construction. The servant's stairway was removed upon our renovation, but the main staircase was restored, as were the stained glass windows, fireplace mantel and the porch detailing. It's now four quiet apartments, with laundry facilities in the basement. It's conveniently located within a 5 minute walk of groceries and the Commons business district and is only a 15 minute walk to CU along Cascadilla gorge. Nearby bus routes offer frequent service to anywhere in Tompkins County. No pets. No smoking.
